Psalm 91:4 – He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shall thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

The expression UNDER HIS WINGS is a parable expression for the purpose of giving an explanation of the type of care Our Father gives to His Children. The parable meaning of the words SHIELD AND BUCKLER is about Our Father protecting His Children. Do you recall a teaching Christ Our Lord gave using the same parable?

ME: There was a time when Christ Our Lord told the people of the Old Testament Church that they would not permit Him to protect them like a mother hen protects her baby chicks.

Matthew 23:37 – O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to her, how often would I have gathered your children together, EVEN AS A HEN GATHERS HER CHICKS UNDER HER WINGS, and you would not!

Since Christ Our Lord is of Our Father/Christ Our Lord/Holy Spirit, He used the same parable that was used in our first text verse.

What is some of the meaning that you find in this parable?

ME: When I was a young child my parents still used setting hens on a nest of eggs to hatch the young chicks they needed. Since I observed the mother hens take care of their baby chicks, I do have some observations.

  • The plan of a mother hen was that when danger came, she would have her baby chicks under her wings and under her body.
  • The times of danger were times when the baby chicks could not protect themselves.
  • The mother hen always began to quack in a certain way to give an alarm to her baby chicks. In this way, the mother hen never forced her chicks to get under her wings. She only invited them.
  • The mother hen would always keep her wings and her body over her chicks until the danger was past.

Exodus 25:20 – And the cherubs shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy-seat with their wings, and their faces each toward the other; toward the mercy-seat shall the cherubs’ faces be.

HOLY SPIRIT: Greetings! When Our Father had the Mercy Seat in the Temple on Planet Earth patterned after the one in Heaven, Our Father had the people place two ornamental Cherubim on top of it. Do you know why Our Father did this?

ME: This was to help the High Priest and the Hebrew People to realize that the PROTECTIVE CARE of our Father described in our first text verse, was provided for the High Priest when he went before the Mercy Seat in the Temple once a year.

HOLY SPIRIT: What was the size of the wings on the ornamental Cherubim?

ME: Holy Spirit, You led me to a Scripture that states that the Cherubim were about fifteen feet tall with wings about seven and one half feet long.

1 Kings 6:24 – And one wing of the cherub was five cubits (7 1/2 feet long), and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits (7 1/2 feet long); ten cubits from the ends of its wings even to the ends of its wings (tip of one wing to the tip of the other was 15 feet).

1 Kings 6:25 – And the other cherub was ten cubits (15 feet). Both the cherubs were of one measure and one size.

This was a very impressive way to express the protection of Our Father.

Exodus 25:22 – And there I will meet with thee, and I will COMMUNE with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubs on the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give you in commandment to the sons of Israel.

HOLY SPIRIT: Even though the Cherubim were ornamental ones on top of the Mercy Seat, the High Priest knew that this meant there was a canopy of real Angels wings over him when He was before the Mercy Seat. In this place where the High Priest was protected by Our Father through a canopy of Angel wings, the word COMMUNE includes the meaning that Our Father and the High Priest had a two way conversation.

Hebrew 8:1 – Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who Is set on the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens.

HOLY SPIRIT: Who is the High Priest in this verse?

ME: This is Christ Our Lord, Who after His Ascension into Heaven, has been sitting at the right hand of Our Father as He sits on His Throne.

HOLY SPIRIT: What is the significance of the word WE in this verse?

ME: This means that every Born Again Christian living on Planet Earth can know that Christ Our Lord sitting at the right hand of Our Father is his or her personal High Priest.

Hebrews 4:16 – Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in the time of need.

HOLY SPIRIT: When a Born Again Christian worships and prays on Planet Earth, he or she can have the confidence that he or she is under the same protective care of the Angels as was the High Priest when he went into the Holy Place in the Temple once a year. The reason for this protective care of the Angels is so that a Born Again Christian worshiping and praying on Planet Earth can concentrate on worship and prayer and not have to be concerned about fighting demons at that time.

CONCLUSION: This is a great encouragement for the saints of the Most High God to know that during our prayer time and praise time, Angels form a canopy of their wings over us knowing that we are in a protected place of worship.
